Unit Nine

U9D1 Reflect on your learning as a researcher in this Integrative Project course:

What would you do differently if you could start over again?

I probably would have tried to allocate the time through more planning (but I always think that, in other words, one always thinks one could have planned better, I think, towards the end of a project) but life always intervenes or as John Lennon once said: Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."

Would you choose to do the same project all over again if given the choice?

Yes, because my project is of interest to me but I think of interest and possibly of importance to everyone, that is, democracy and how people are governed are important to everyone.

What have you learned about developing objectives and methods?

Objectives are derived from interests, needs, and desires and methods require knowledge, training, skill, and application or hard work -- which brings to mind the phrase about 1% inspiration (objectives) and 99% perspiration (methods). It also brings to mind the development process as described in Bloom's Taxonomy ( knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, evaluation ).

What have you learned about completing a project such as this one?

As always, the importance of commitment, planning, and persistence.

What advice would you give to a learner who is just about to start this course?

Plan ahead, learn your material, use all of your previously learned skills, gather your resources, and execute your ideas and as someone in another course said by quoting Thoreau: simplify, simplify, simplify. --- Richard

U9D2 Comment to Alisa:

Your project is looking really good. I am not quite sure what the time span is for the completion of the diary. At first I thought it might be for one year but at the beginning it mentions examining how they live during the next week and I think 193 pages is a lot for one week unless this is meant to be some sort of intensive one week workshop. If it spreads over a considerable amount of time it might be a good idea to include a calendar.

I think you have got an important subject to explore, --- Richard
