U2d1 Audience Questions

Answer the following questions, then post your answers in the Course Discussion.

Who is your audience and what is your purpose?

There are a few ideas I am considering now for the course project and for each idea the initial audience would be the members of this class though eventually the audience would be the general public or interested focus groups. ----- Richard

Who are the audiences that you have designed for, or might need to design for in the future?

I have designed, using computers, for members of previous classes and will for future classes. I hope to design for the public and the interested focus groups when I complete the courses I am taking. I have done artwork and illustration for various people and companies but that was before my computer experiences that I am having now. ----- Richard

What purposes have you designed presentations for in the past, and what purposes might you design presentations for in the future?

Most presentations I have designed for have been school related and some for commercial purposes. ----- Richard

What concerns do you have about these audiences and purposes?

One always has to be aware of the audiences level of familiarity with the technology and subject matter that is being presented. ----- Richard

U2d2 Flash Questions

Answer the following questions, then post your answers in the Course Discussion.
What is your plan for your final Flash Project?

Of the projects I am considering, one is a personal web site showing my art work and background experiences. Another is a project promoting direct democracy which involves the citizens voting directly on legislative issues. Another would be basically a showcase of Flash techniques but I am thinking of having the homepage interface format in the form of a game board such as Monopoly or Candy Land. For the purposes of this course I'll probably use the game board idea and with the others possibly only design the home page. ----- Richard

If possible, would you please provide an outline for your Flash Presentation.

U2d3 Sketches

Make at least three thumbnail sketches of your project. Include three possible site maps. Also, be sure to include the overall layout and what will be placed where, in terms of design and content. Then write a brief note about the timeline and the media you plan to include. Where will you be using still images and where will you be using animation? What colors will be included in the design palette? Post your sketches and sitemap in the Course Discussion area.

U2d4 Audiences

Discuss the audiences and purposes for which your classmates are designing in their FLASH presentations. Consider the comments of your classmates regarding your audience. Discuss the possibilities.

U2D4 Commment to Mark.

I think you would have a very specialized audience since not many people own those types of animals that you mentioned. For them to find you, you would need to be sure to have your key words listed in a search engine and you might need a list of clubs, organizations, and mailing lists associated with people with those specialized interests or in other words, focus groups related to your topics. ----- Richard

U2d5 Outline Plan

Using concepts from brainstorm project ideas, outline the plan for your Flash Presentation. Review your classmates' plans, discuss pros and cons, ask questions, and give suggestions about improving plans.

It seems many people have mentioned having a splash or intro/enter page and I wonder if this is necessary in many cases. A preloader and an introductory movie (with a skip intro option) to generate interest makes sense but the sites that have an enter button sometimes suggest exclusivity, privacy, or that the viewer must be 18 or older to enter the site which is usually not an image many sites want to have. My plan is to go from the index page to the preloader to the splash page then to the home page which then connects to the various pages. ----- Richard

U2d6 Discussion

Discuss the plans, thumbnails, and site maps that your classmates have posted in the Course Discussion area. Make comments on what appears to be working well, and give suggestions on additional concepts. Explain the way the design communicates to you.

I enjoyed seeing the real sketches which seemed to have been done on paper. I prefer generating ideas that way and have for this course but I don't have a scanner though I plan to get one soon. I did get a Wacom stylus and tablet recently and that is definitely preferable to trying to draw with a mouse. ----- Richard

Letter to Amar Almasude:

This is to let you know that I will be returning to the USA soon. My Internet connection will be off here in Taiwan beginning July 20 and when I return I will get a new connection hopefully around the 26 th or 27 th though I should be able to send and receive emails during that time.
I'll keep you posted as events occur concerning this.
Also, I looked ahead at the syllabus (it mentions the book Flash MX Bible: are the contents the same as the Flash MX 2004 Bible?) and here is the reading syllabus:
U1 ch. 1, 2
U2 ch. 3, 32
U3 ch. 16
U4 ch. 36, 38
U5 ch. 15, 17
U6 ch. 18, 19, 20
U7 ch. 25, 27
U8 ch. 41, 42, 43
U9 ch. 21, 28
U10 ch. 44
(but the book only goes to chapter 38.)
Thank you, ----- Richard
